London: A veiled woman
caught on a CCTV camera stealing flowers from an 11-year-old boy's
grave has sparked a public outrage here.
His family had installed the camera at the cemetery in Barking,
Essex, after repeated thefts of gifts they had left there. The boy
was killed by a car in 1980.
They were horrified when the footage seemed to show a woman
callously taking flowerpots from the youngster's grave and shoving
them into her handbag, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday.
The boy's cousin had set up the motion sensor camera after the
devastated family's tributes of ornaments and flowers disappeared
every fortnight for 18 months.
The grieving family had begged the thieves to stop, but were
ignored.
Barking and Dagenham civic council said thefts from its cemetery
were 'rare' and promised to cooperate with police in identifying
the woman.
