Kolkata: West Bengal's
Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta Friday issued a notification
inviting overseas Bengalis to register their names in the
electoral rolls.
"The notification enabling overseas electors to register their
names in the electoral rolls was issued today (Friday) in this
regard. The addresses of the registration officers of each of the
294 assembly constituencies of the sate can be seen on the website
www.ceowestbengal.nic.in ," said Gupta.
Under the amended rule of the Representation of the People Act,
1950, which has come into effect from Feb 10, 2011, every overseas
elector is entitled to register his or her name in the electoral
roll of the constituency in which his or her place of residence in
India, as mentioned in the passport, is located, he said.
The individual should be an Indian citizen living abroad and not
have acquired citizenships of any other country and not be
included in the electoral rolls, according to the law.
Gupta said Bengalis living abroad and desirous of registering
their names in the electoral roll have been invited to submit
claim application in Form 6A for registration in the electoral
roll.
The claim application in Form 6A may be either submitted in person
directly to the registration officer of the constituency concerned
or sent by post along with the documents mentioned in the form and
the guidelines.
If the claim application is sent by post, it should be accompanied
by photocopies of the relevant pages of the passport duly attested
by the competent official of the Indian mission in the country
concerned, added Gupta.
