Abu Dhabi:
A company that organises exhibitions in Abu Dhabi will soon employ
the services of a robot to assist visitors and guide them to the
desired stalls.
The Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) will employ the
robot at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The robot would
provide people with information and guide them to key locations
within the venue.
The robot named Reem has also been programmed to provide
personalised greetings to VIPs at exhibitions.
Reem is the latest prototype from PAL Robotics, a conglomerate
based in Abu Dhabi. The robot is 1.65 metres in height, with a
mobile base that enables it to move at five km per hour. It
includes a motorised head with vision, face tracking and
recognition functions.
The robot contains sensors and a multimedia touchscreen that
offers information in various formats, as well as the ability to
via video conference.
Peter Abraam, an executive director at the company, said: "Reem
has been designed to assist people in places such as shopping
malls, hotels, hospitals, museums and exhibition centres. I
believe Reem could be a great asset and will be enjoyed by the
thousands of visitors who attend the many events held at the venue
each year."
