New Delhi:
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Monday was adopted as an extension
centre by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for training in
athletics, football, hockey and volleyball.
A Jamia spokesperson said the scheme is being promoted by SAI to
develop sports at all levels especially in juniors.
"Schools and colleges actively involved in sports, with adequate
infrastructure, and a history of producing national and
international sports persons are eligible under this scheme," the
official said.
Jamia will conduct selection trials from July 13-15 for students
in the age group 14-17 years and also for those in age group of
14-19, who have represented the state.
SAI will provide sportspersons with Rs.6,000 per annum as stipend
for diet and kit.
"The concept is to develop sports standard in schools and colleges
that organize specific sports and have shown commendable results,"
the official added.
