New Delhi:
Strong pleas for a fair deal to Muslims was made in the Lok Sabha
today but views differed on providing reservation to the largest
minority in the country.
A debate on the status of minorities in the country saw claims and
counter claims between BJP and non-BJP members over the issue of
welfare of the Muslims.
When Congress and CPI(M) members said the recommendations of Sachar
Committee should be implemented, Shahnawaz Hussain (BJP) said the
party is not against implementing welfare measures for the uplift of
Muslims.
"BJP is with you to support your programmes for minorities," Hussain
said participating in the debate on the need to uplift the
socio-economic and educational status of minorities in the country.
Hussain, who quoted the Sachar Committee report for explaining the
pathetic conditions of the Muslims, however, was non committal on
BJP's support in implementing its recommendations.
