Aligarh:
Notwithstanding the sine die, the Aligarh Muslim University has
decided to conduct all the admission tests as per the notified
schedule. In a consultative meeting with Deans of all the
faculties and Principals of Colleges chaired by the Vice
Chancellor, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, it was decided that the
University will be reopened within the shortest possible time.
Prof. Azis briefed the situation and the unavoidable circumstances
behind the painful decision of sine die.
The sine die was considered inevitable and the closure of the
University was approved in the meeting. The meeting expressed
concern over the way the Students’ Union leaders behaved in the
last three months, particularly the incidents of barging into the
offices of Principal Dental College, the Registrar, Controller of
Examinations, the Finance Officer and the Vice Chancellor and
wanted strong action against everyone involved into the acts of
indiscipline. The meeting reminded that AMU Students’ Union is not
above the code of conduct rules of the University.
The Deans of faculties have been asked to resubmit new schedule of
examinations. The Dean, Faculty of Engineering has been asked to
submit a proposal, keeping in view the job opportunities,
placement and the training of the engineering students so as to
avoid any loss in their future career.
In order to keep the University on the right track and to ensure
smooth functioning it was resolved to initiate stern action
against students involved in cases of indiscipline and vandalism
for the last three months. It was resolved that rule of law must
prevail at all cost in the University campus. The footage of CCTV
should be examined to identify the culprits and to initiate sever
action against the trouble makers.
The Meeting also resolved to tighten the security of the Vice
Chancellor, Controller of Examinations, Registrar and the Finance
Officer so that the University functionaries could work without
any disturbance or under duress.
Considering the special situation of Medical College Hospital and
Tibbiya College, the meeting decided that interns and resident
doctors be allowed to reside in the hostels to run the
University’s hospital services smoothly.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Azis urged the University functionaries
to work as a team to bring back normalcy at the earliest. He
expressed satisfaction that all the students have complied with
the University directive to vacate the hostels and informed that
95 percent students have already vacated their hostels and rest
will leave the campus very shortly.
