Counting of votes begins in five states

India set for history-making election outcome

Bangalore: Karnataka's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was Friday set to bag all the three assembly seats where bypolls were held on April 9.

The BJP candidates were leading in Channapatna in Ramanagaram district, Jagalur (reserved for Scheduled Tribes) in Davangere district and Bangarpet (reserved for Scheduled Castes) in Kolar district.

C.P. Yogeshwar in Channapatna, S.V. Ramachandra in Jagalur and M. Narayanaswamy in Bangarpet were ahead of their Congress and Janata Dal-Secular rivals in the vote counting that began at 8 a.m. amid tight security.

The bypolls were necessitated as two Congress legislators (Jagalur and Bangarpet) and one JD-S law maker (Channapatna) quit their seats and their parties to join the BJP.
