NATO airstrike in Afghanistan kills 12 kids

London:
At least 12 children, some under two years, and two women have
been killed in a NATO airstrike in Afghanistan, Sky News reported.
The incident took place in Nawzad district in Helmand province
late Saturday.
Dawood Ahmadi, the provincial government spokesman, said NATO was
targeting insurgents but instead struck two homes, killing two
women, five girls and seven boys.
Some of the children were under two years old. Six more people
were reportedly injured in the bombardment.
Noor Agha, the father of the children, said: "My house was
bombarded in the middle of the night and my children were killed.
The Taliban were far away from my home, why was my house bombed?"
Major Tim James, a NATO spokesman, said the organisation was aware
of the reports of civilian casualties in Nawzad.
International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops earlier
killed one woman armed with a rocket-propelled grenade launcher in
a raid on a compound in eastern Khost province Saturday.
