India re-elected chair of international population body

New Delhi: Indian
Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has been re-elected the
chairperson of intergovernmental body Partners in Population
Development (PPD), a statement said here Saturday.
The decision was taken during the PPD meeting in South Africa,
which concluded Friday.
The other members of the newly-constituted executive committee
include China as vice-chair, Kenya as secretary, Tunisia as
treasurer and Mexico and South Africa as members.
The PPD partner countries are from Asia, North Africa, Sub-Saharan
Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
India has chaired the PPD since 2009.
PPD is an inter-governmental organization created specifically for
the purpose of expanding and improving south-south collaboration
in the fields of reproductive health, population and development.
The PPD was initiated in 1994 at the International Conference on
Population and Development (ICPD) held at Cairo.

More than 2.5mn people from all
across the world have gathered in Makkah for Haj which starts
