Mumbai: In a pre-Diwali
gift, the Maharashtra government Thursday decided to allow
additional construction of 0.33 percent in buildings in Mumbai's
suburbs and extended suburbs after charging a premium, an official
said.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that the state government
will make suitable amendments to the Development Control
Regulations for Greater Mumbai, 1991, and a notification would be
issued soon.
"This initiative is likely to bring down the prices of housing in
Mumbai. The premium, estimated to be around five billion rupees
annually, will accrue to the state government and Municipal
Corporation of Greater Mumbai," Chavan said, addressing an
investors meeting here.
