Assam ethnic violence: Bodoland Peoples' Front legislator arrested

Thursday August 23, 2012 09:40:10 AM, IANS

Guwahati: An Assam legislator was arrested Thursday for his role in the ethnic violence in the state, police said.

Pradip Brahma is an MLA from the Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF).

Brahma was held after seven cases were registered against him in Fakiragram and Dotama police stations in Kokrajhar district, Inspector General of Police L.R. Bishnoi told IANS.

BPF, led by its chief Hagrama Mihilary, is in power in the Bodoland Territorial Council that runs the four Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts. The party is also a partner in the state's Congress-led government.

Meanwhile, indefinite curfew has been imposed in Kokrajhar after fresh violence in Dhubri district Wednesday night in which one person was injured and two people went missing.
