Tribal woman walks out of marriage over lack of toilet

Thursday February 23, 2012 07:44:16 PM, IANS

Betul (Madhya Pradesh): A tribal woman in Madhya Pradesh was Tuesday handed a draft of Rs.200,000 for her "bold action" in leaving her marital home within days of her wedding to protest against the lack of a toilet.

Anita Narre will also be handed an award of Rs.500,000 at a special function in New Delhi in April.

NGO Sulabh International announced the "Sulabh Sanitation Award" to Narre for refusing to defecate in the open and sparking a "Toilet Revolution" in her village in central Madhya Pradesh.
