New Delhi: Being
active on social networking sites like Facebook and Orkut has
landed four Indian Navy officers in trouble after they gave away
critical service information and confidential matters, resulting
in an official probe holding them blameworthy and fit to be
punished.
The officers, whose names are being withheld, may face strong
disciplinary action for the lapse, viewed seriously by the armed
forces and against which several warnings have been issued to all
armed forces personnel, defence ministry sources said here
Thursday.
The officers, all holding the rank of commander, which is a middle
level position in the hierarchy, faced the Board of Inquiry at the
Mumbai-headquartered Western Naval Command.
The sources said the navy had been keeping a watch on the four
officers for long, as there were several foreign nationals too
accessing the sensitive information they had given out on the
social networking sites.
