Washington: A militia
has seized control of the international airport in Libyan capital
Tripoli, CNN reported Monday.
Two platoons of the Tarhouna militia moved in overnight because of
an ongoing dispute with the government, sparked by the
disappearance of a militia leader on the airport road Sunday, a
source said.
The government sent emissaries to meet with the militia Sunday
night, said Deputy Foreign Minister Abdul Karim Ahmed Bazama. The
talks were continuing Monday.
The minister said he did not know where the militia leader was or
the circumstances of his disappearance.
At the airport, armed militia members escorted passengers to cars
and described it as an evacuation of the terminal. It was not
clear whether flights had been cancelled.
