Mumbai:
The Mumbai Police Friday registered a case against "Innocence of
Muslims", a controversial film that has ignited protests all over
the Muslim world as well as Sam Bacile, the film's producer.
A Mumbai-based lawyer, Zulfiqar Memon has alleged that the
contents of the film are against Islam and have hurt the religious
sentiments of Muslims.
On the basis of his complaint, a case has been registered under
Section 66 of the Information Technology Act and under Section
295A (outraging religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code said
a senior crime branch official.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy confirmed the
development. The case has been registered under the cyber cell of
the Mumbai Police crime branch.
According to latest reports, at least 14 people have been killed
in worldwide protests against the film. The protests also
triggered an attack on US diplomats in eastern Libya, which led to
the death of US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three embassy
staffers.
