Tuesday August 27, 2013 10:45 PM, IANS

There was good news for nearly 2.5 lakh contractual teachers in Bihar with the state cabinet Tuesday approving a salary hike of Rs.3,000 per month from September for them.

"The state cabinet hiked salaries of contract teachers by Rs 3,000 per month," Cabinet Secretary Brajesh Mehrotra told media persons here.

He said the nearly 2.5 lakh teachers of primary school, middle school and high school would benefit from the hike.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had in his Independence Day (Aug 15) speech announced to hike salaries of contract teachers.

The teachers on contract with the Bihar government has been demanding the "right to equal pay for equal work", since last year.

They had organised a protest against Nitish Kumar last year after he had ruled out considering their demand.
