Mumbai: A timely intervention by police and Jamiat-e-Ulema's local unit on Friday averted a possible disruption of peace and harmony in Mumbra – a Muslim dominated city in Thane district some 35 kms from here.

According to Jamiat-e-Ulema, Mumbra was tense after designs clearly depicting the name of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) were given to contractors for printing on garments used by women.
"The designs were provided by Maya Garments of Ulhasnagar. When the controversial designs and printed fabrics were noticed by a contractor of Mumbra, he refused to print it and took the matter to Jamiat-e-Ulema. Jamiat immediately called a meeting of other Muslim NGOs and also approached local MLA Jitendra Awhad", Mufti Ab Basit said.
He said along with Jitendra Ahad, they called on Thane Police Commissioner KP Raghuvanshi who not only promised them action within 24 hours against the guilty, but also seized the controversial designs and fabrics.
Raghuvanshi, according to Mufti Basit, also directed Deputy Police Commissioner Bhupendra Singh to seize the printed fabrics from Maya Garments of Ulhasnagar. He also told him to check if fabrics with the controversial designs are also in Ahmedabad's Maya mill.
