Malegaon: In a tragic incident Monday, five engineers of local irrigation department were killed after an under repair wall of Chinchoi Dam - a water storage small dam, some 35 kms from here collapsed.
The mishap took place at about 1.30 P.M. While work was on to plug some leaks at the barrage.
The victims, identified as Hiralal Patil, HV Aher, AG Sonawane, Pradeep Suryavanshi and AK Aher, were standing in a pit at the time.
The bodies have been pulled out of the debris and sent to a government hospital in Chandwad for post-mortem.
Eyewitnisses said that the five engineers - two executive engineers and three junior engineers were sitting atop the wall of the dam while a repair work was underway. All of a sudden, the wall collapse resulting in the death of the five engineers.
They said that the wall was made-up of soil and mud. The engineers were monitoring a hole being made using JCB machine when the wall collapsed.
It is alleged that complaints were earlier made to the local irrigation department that the dam walls were weak and were at risk.
No official was availabe for comments. When ummid.com called Dr. Avinash Ahire, who was conducting the post mortum of the dead bodies, he confirmed the death of the five engineers.
