Sub-inspector Shiv Kumar arrested for running militant module in Kashmir

Sub-inspector Shiv Kumar Sharma alias 'Sonu', a recipient of President's gallantry award, nicknamed 'Robinhood' and known as 'encounter specialist' was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly running a module of militants in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sharma, who was serving in the Special Operation Group (SOG) of J&K Police, was arrested at Thathri in Bhadarwah Sub division of Doda district for his alleged involvement in militant activities, official sources said.

State Minister for Home Sajad Ahmed Kitchloo confirmed the arrest and told media that investigation was in progress. .

Sharma was allegedly involved in running the militant module in Doda and Kishtwar districts. The module was involved in the grenade attack on Thathri Police Station last month, the sources said.

Local media reports said, Sharma's involvement came to light after five arrested ultras allegedly involved in the Thathri Police Station grenade attack claimed during police interrogation that Sharma provided weapons and explosive materials to them.

The five suspected militants were arrested with heavy arms and ammunition on May 23, in connection with the botched attempt to kill security personnel near Thathri Police Station in Doda district.

Police had alleged that the militants had planned to attack the security personnel by hurling grenade on the police station on the intervening night of April 27 and 28, but the grenade fell just short of the police station averting casualties.

The sources further said that Shiv Kumar alias Sonu, son of Hem Raj of Thatri who also owns 18 rooms Guest House namely Karan–Arjun at Sartingal Bhaderwah was instrumental in several grenade attacks and IED blasts at Bhaderwah and Doda.
