New Delhi: An angry Vijay Goel on Sunday walked out of the BJP meeting called for the nomination of the Delhi chief minister ahead of the crucial assembly election scheduled for December. Vijay Goel, who is the president of BJP’s Delhi unit, also threatened to resign "if he is not named" chief minister designate.
Vijay Goel was angry over the reports that another party leader Harsh Vardhan’s name is being considered for the post of Delhi chief minister after elections.
Party sources said Vardhan emerged as the best choice both within the BJP and the RSS, which saw him as one with a better image to counter the twin threats faced by the BJP in the December polls.
According to the sources, party leaders are largely in favour of Harsh Vardhan over Goel. But due to he infighting the party deferred the announcement of its chief ministerial candidate for the assembly elections in the national capital.
It is no secret that the saffron party is facing intense heat in many constituencies in Delhi and even fearing being squeezed out, fourth time in a row -- because of the standing of Congress chief minister Sheila Dikshit and the Aam Aadmi Party under Arvind Kejriwal, which was a fledgling outfit but picking up in popularity charts.
