Symposium on capacity building of Muslims held in Saharanpur

A symposium on 'Capacity building of Muslim Community leaders and Community Volunteers' was organised by 'Parcham', a social organisation at Uttam Heritage Hotel in which many NGO's of city and adjoining areas participated.

The symposium was presided by Sr. Lawyer and leading social worker Anwar Ali Advocate.

Speaking in the symposium, Chief Guest, Dr. Shakeel Samdani, Senior Faculty at AMU and President Sir Syed Awareness Forum said that, although in Muslim community a large number of leaders exist but they are unable to solve the problems of Muslim community because they never associated themselves with Social and Milli Organisations.

Dr. Shakeel Samdani further said that the Sachar Committee has tried its best to diagnose the problems of the community. Now it is the responsibility of the community to get it implemented by the government. The UPA government has failed to implement major recommendations of Sachar Committee except enhancing the scholarships and spending some money in Muslim concentrated districts.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Samdani said that the young Muslim generation has the potential of doing everything but there is no one to guide them. That's why their energies are being wasted in different directions. This young generation must be guided by the honest, dedicated, hard working and visionary community leaders. He also demanded the restoration of Minority character of Aligarh Muslimuniversity by U P A government.

He further said that as far as the NGO's are concerned, Muslims have less than 1% NGO's in their hands. In the last, he exhorted the audience to involve themselves in community work especially in education and health field. In the last he said that without the participation of Muslim women community can not progress.

Dr. Obaid Iqbal Asim said that the community which has no leader deviates from the right path and cannot achieve anything substantial. Due the inefficient and corrupt leadership Muslim community is unable to get the benefit of the govt welfare schemes.

Prof. Tanveer Chisti, Principal, Gochar Mahavidyalaya said that in addition to the education the Muslims should also focus on health and economy. He also emphasised the importance of Urdu language.

Shahid Zuberi, Sr. Journalist and social worker said that the recommendations of the Sachar Committee are basically for non backward communities and that's why the committee has not recommended any substantial programme for educationally and socially backward classes.

He said that the govt should earmark 8% quota for Muslims in Mandal Commission. He further said that in his own district education Mafia is very effective and they are giving a bad name to the community.

In his presidential address, Sr. Advocate and renowned social worker, Anwar Ali said that Muslim leadership, whether political or religious, has failed to lead the community in the right direction as they have no ideology or objectives.

He said that Muslim leadership lacks vision and is unable to lead the community in the right direction. He praised Dr. Shakeel Samdani for his remarkable speech which was full of vision and revolved around the basic issues of the community. In the last he said that Muslims can win the hearts of Hindus by high moral character.

Other speakers included Javed Saroha and Naved Qureshi. The programme was conducted by its dynamic president Dr. Qudsiya Anjum. She also discussed in detail the aims and objects of the seminar.

The symposium was attended by Jamil Manvi, Ishrat Ali, Seema Zahoor, Ishaq Ali Sundar, Ayesha Parveen, Dr. Anis Ahmed of Jamit ul Falah, Zeenat Naaz, Ex Chairperson ,Nagar Palika ,Deoband, Miss Heena, Senior Member Saltanat, Dr Tanzim of Industria l Muslim Inter college, Ved Prakash Popli, Deepak, Reshma Sheikh, Mohd. Luqman of Madarsa, Dare Arqam etc.

The special feature of the symposium was that the women outnumbered men.
