A 31-year-old final year MBBS student has been arrested in connection with a scam related to medical college entrance examinations in Madhya Pradesh, police said Thursday.

Santosh Chaurasia, who has a bounty of Rs.15,000 on his head, was arrested Wednesday from Connaught Place here.

Chaurasia was involved in a scam related to entrance examination conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal.

A resident of Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior, he is a final year MBBS student of Vardhman Mahavir Medical College at Safdarjung Hospital here.

Chaurasia told police he came in contact in 2003 with Deepak Yadav, the kingpin of the examination scam who has been arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police.

"The scamsters used to provide fake candidates to take part in the entrance exams instead of the actual candidates," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav.

Chaurasia was tasked to provided fake candidates. He procured the candidates from an associate based in Lucknow.

"Deepak Yadav used to charge Rs.5-8 lakh per candidate and Chaurasia was given a part of the money. Chaurasia is wanted in four cases of cheating and forgery in Gwalior," said a police official.

He was earlier arrested in 2006 in an MBA admission racket along with other associates in Indore.

Chaurasia was Thursday produced at the Patiala House court from where he was handed over to Madhya Pradesh Police on transit remand, an official said.
