Ranchi: Even as the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to win the Jharkhand assembly polls, in an interesing display of democracy in India, voters have refused to show faith in three former chief ministers of the tribal state.
As counting began in all the 81 seats under tight security, trends coming from shows that former chief ministers Babulal Marandi, Madhu Koda and Arjun Munda are trailing in their constituencies.
While Babulal Marandi of JVM is traling behind his nearest rival by 5,468 votes, Madhu Koda of JBSP and Arjun Munda of BJP are respectively trailing by 1,711 and 2,667 votes.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren however was leading from both the seats he contested.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appeared set for victory in Jharkhand Tuesday as counting of votes polled in assembly polls put its candidates ahead in 38 of the 81 seats.
Election Commission sources indicated a BJP sweep, with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leading only in 21 constituencies, the Congress in 10 and two other parties in 12 places.
Almost all the exit polls after the five-phase election had predicted a BJP win in Jharkhand.
A total of 1,136 candidates fought the election.
