Mumbai: In a shocking incident, Shiv Sena leader Vasudev Nambiar (61) has been arrested by the Kashimira police in Thane rural district on Thursday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old school girl for about a year.
Vasudeo Nambiar is the district deputy chief of Shiv Sena. He owns a school and a temple in Kashimira township of Thane. The incident came to light after the girl recently delivered a premature baby.
“The 15-year-old victim is a student of Class10 of Gyaan Parbodhini Vidyamandir, of which Nambiyar is a trustee. On September 2, the victim complained of stomach pain, and her mother took her to a doctor. After examining her, the local doctor recommended that the girl needed to be taken to a nursing home,” said Jagdish Walvi, sub-inspector, Kashimira police station.
Walvi said that Nambiyar took the victim to his bungalow located opposite her school and raped her on several occasions. He had threatened her of dire consequences if she informed anyone about the incidents.
The officer added that neither her parents nor her teachers found out about her pregnancy for eight months.
“On September 2, she delivered a premature child, and on September 4, we arrested Nambiyar. He was later produced in a court. The victim was sent for medical tests while the accused and the child were sent for DNA testing as Nambiyar refuted the allegation. We are now waiting for the medical reports,” Walvi said.
The accused has been charged under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Earlier, the Shiv Sena faced flak after it came out in support of senior IPS officer Sunil Paraskar, accused of raping a city-based model, and stroked a controversy by issuing a statement that it has become a 'fashion' to charge men with rape.
