Mumba: Hours after Election Commissioner V.S.Sampath announced the schedule of the Maharashtra assembly polls, Telangana legislator and senior All Indian Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi flagged off party campaign with a huge rally organised in Mumbai's Nagpada area.
Addressing the rally amid slogan-shouting Akbaruddin Owaisi urged the gathering to vote for the defeat of the communal forces.
"Keep aside the sectarian differences in view of the anti-Islamic conspiracies hatched all over the world including India, and rise above the narrow considerations in order to defeat them", he said.
The flamboyant leader known for fiery speeches singled out Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the policies he pursued and said we will force him to bow before us.
Citing the events of the battle of Badr from the Islamic history, he said, "We can prevail over others if we have faith in God and strive selflessly to achieve our goals."
He asked Muslims to vote cautiously in the coming polls and hinted that the MIM would field candidates for Maharashtra Assembly elections.
“We have come here to win your hearts”, he said amid applause and recalled MIM’s services for the Muslims across the country.
Owaisi expressed anguish over the moves to destabilize the Islamic world and lamented that certain elements are playing in the hands of anti-Muslim forces.
The rally was also said to be addressed by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. But, he could not make to the venue because of some unavoidable reasons.
Akbaruddin Owaisi had to wait for months for Friday's Mumbai rally. Earlier, he and his elder brother Asaduddin Owaisi were denied permissions to hold rallies in Maharashtra.
