Mumbai: There has been no report of moon sighting from any part of the country till 08:00 p.m. Thursday, and hence it is most likely that Eid al-Adha will be celebrated in India on Monday October 06, various Hilal Committees said.
"We have not yet received anu confirmed moon sighting report from any part of the country so far. Hence, it is announced that Eid al-Adha in Mumbai will most likely be celebrated on Monday October 06, 2014", Mehmood Daryabadi of Markazi Ruyat Hilal Committe, Jama Masjid, Mumbai said while talking to ummid.com.
The new moon of the month of Dul Hijjah has been sighted in Saudi Arabia and other Arab states on Wednesday. Following the confirmation, it was announced that the Arafat Day and Haj will be on Friday October 03 and Eid al-Adha in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states will be on October 04.
Reports coming from Hyderabad and other parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also said there was no confirmation of moon sighting from any part of the state.
"Hilal Committees in Hyderabad and other parts of the state have announced that Eid al-Adha will be celebrated in the state on Monday October 06", a senior reporter working for a national TV channel said.
In Lucknow, Hilal Committes are in a meeting, and a formal announcement is expected any moment.
In Malegaon in North Maharashtra too the new moon was sighted. A formal announcement here is also awaited.
New month in the Islamic Calendar starts with sighting of the moon, observed on 29th of the preceding month.
