New Delhi: Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat, the apex body of Indian Muslim organizations, appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Pakistan visit.

“We hope that this important step will be followed up to bring real peace to the subcontinent which in turn will translate your dream of a great and prosperous India into a reality", Dr Khan said in a letter sent to the Prime Minister.

“We see huge possibilities for India not only to save on the unnecessary burden of spiraling defence and security budget but also to access a huge market in Pakistan for our products and services and to easily access Afghanistan, Iran and Central Asia by road through the Pakistani territory", he added.

Stating that improving relationship between the two conutries will give an unprecedented boost to India's exports which are declining at present, Dr Khan said, "We also wish that similar diplomacy and statesmanship will be utilised to ensure improved ties with China and all our neighbours."

"Such peace and tranquility in the region, if realised, will certainly create a place of honour for you in history and ensure you recognition as a world leader", he said.

“We pray that the small but historic step you have taken by visiting Lahore will be followed up to its logical end. We realise that foreign powers, which thrive on sale of arms to all side of a conflict, will not wish success for your revolutionary step.

"But, Mr Prime Minister, be sure that the people of India will firmly stand behind you in this historic endeavour.” Dr Khan said in his letter.
