Hyderabad: In a scathing attack on TRS government in Telangana for its Ramadan gift program, Hyderabad MP and President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Asaduddin Owaisi Friday said release of Abdul Qadeer from jail and scholarships to minority students are the real Ramadan gift for the community.
"The real gift will be release of Abdul Qadeer, who is in jail for the last 25 years, and release of scholarship amount to the minority students", Owaisi said while talking to ummid.com on phone.
Over 1.24 lakh students in the state who had applied for pre-matric and post-matric scholarships are in a tizzy because of the delay. The scholarship muddle is attributed to the delay in framing of guidelines to the Financial Aid to Students of Telangana (FAST) scheme.
Owaisi said though the money was released on November 11 by the centre, the State government is yet to disburse it.
Abdul Qadir, a police constable was convicted in the ACP Sattiah murder case in 1992 and is languishing in jail since then. The government had rejected a petition filed by Begum last year in which she requested the government to release her husband on health grounds. The government maintained that if released, Qadeer could embolden communal troublemakers.
Owaisi was commenting on Telangana government's much publicised plan to distribute gift packs to poor Muslims this Ramadan. As part of this program, the state government has identified about 1.95 lakh Muslim families who will be gifted with a gift pack worth Rs.500.
