Following the incident, Syed Mateen and Shaikh Zafar of AIMIM and Suhail Shaikh of Congress were suspended for a day.

The Shiv Sena has 29 members in the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The main opposition party is AIMIM which has a total of 25 members. On the other hand, the has BJP 22 members, Congress 8, NCP 3 and Independents/Others are 24.

Reacting on the incident, local MP of Shiv Sena, Chandrakant Khaire, said that insult to Vande Matram would not be tolerated.

"Our stand is very clear.... is desh me rehna hoga toh Vande Mataram bolna padega (you would have to say Vande Mataram if you want to stay in this country)... " he said.

AIMIM MLA Imtiyaz Jaleel however said singing Vande Matram is not compulsory.

"Our stand is very clear.... Vande Matram is optional, you have the right to sing or not sing," he said.
