New Delhi: A Muslim teenager was stabbed to death and three others, including his two brothers, were injured after attack by a group of people after an alleged dispute over a seat on a running train near Ballabhgarh in Haryana barely 20 kilometres from Delhi.
The four victims identified as Junaid, Hasib, Shakir and Mohsin were also abused with religious slurs, according to the police complaint filed by one of the victims Hasib.
Junaid who succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalised is Hasib's brother.
“Shakir is serious,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Faridabad Government Railway Police (GRP), Mohinder Singh told PTI, adding that the railway police has registered a case of murder.
Singh said the incident happened on Thursday night on board the Delhi-Mathura passenger train between Ballabgarh and Mathura stations.
“An altercation took place between the three brothers and some 10 passengers over a seat. The passengers allegedly passed some remarks on the three brothers, who are Muslims, and residents of Khandawali village in Faridabad,” he said.
Photographs showed bleeding Junaid being cradled by his brother and the railway compartment where the incident occurred drenched in blood.
Mohsin, another victim said, they were traveling back to their village in Haryana after shopping in Delhi for Eid when they were attacked in the train.
He also said they pulled the chain to stop the train. But, their emergency request was ignored.
