Muslim teens booked for cow slaughter

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday booked seven Muslims for cow slaughter that led to violence in Bulandshahr killing two including a police inspector.

Surprisingly, among those named by the police are two cousins of 11 and 12 years of age and some who are either non-residents or whom the locals have never seen in the village.

In a video clip posted online, Yasin Khan of Naya Bans said police came to his house in search of his son and nephew, who have been named as accused.

“I was taken to the thana (police station); they kept me there for four hours, and made me write names of the boys and took my phone number,” he said.

The Muslim teenagers and others have been booked by the police following a complaint lodged by Yogesh Raj - a Bajrang Dal extremist and main accused in the murder of Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who himself is on the run since the incident.

The Muslim teenagers were also taken the police station along with Yasin Khan.

"We hardly spoke there. I was not feeling well. I had never been inside a police station before. After my uncle said that we were younger than 18, he was asked to get our Aadhaar cards to confirm the age," said one of the minors.

The villagers are shocked that children have been named for cow slaughter. The father of one of the teens said they were not even in the village on the day of the incident.

Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who was posted at the Syana Police Station, died in the violence that broke out in Bulandshahr on Monday over alleged illegal slaughter of cattle. A local man was also shot dead in the violence.

Kumar was attacked with stones and shot dead by a mob of hundreds that chased his car and surrounded it in a field on Monday evening. The officer and his team had gone to the area to tackle protests after cow carcasses were found scattered in a forest. The mob left more than five policemen wounded, burned down a police station and set several vehicles on fire.

Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Adityanath held a meeting late in the night Tuesday and ordered the arrest of those involved in cow slaughter - something which has so far not been even proved. Adityanath however did not say a word about what action his government will take against those invloved in the murder of police inspector and the local youth.
