Sydney: A young millionaire died after donating all of his money and possessions to charity when he was "gifted with cancer".
Ali Banat, the wealthy Muslim businessman from the Sydney suburb of Greenacre in Australia had a lavish lifestyle that most youths could desire. But, his life took a dramatic turn when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in 2015 and doctor gave Ali Banat 7 months to live, local media reported.
Ali Banat was told he had seven months to live but instead lived for another three years. In that time he says he got rid of his cars, watches "even my clothes, I took them overseas with me and gave them to a lot of people," he said, SBS reported.
Instead of chasing entities of the temporary world, Banat gave up all of his worldly possessions. He went on to set up ‘Muslims Around The World” (MATW)’, a non-profit and community-based charity project aimed at “providing financial assistance and outreach to those in need”. The organization built mosques and schools for the less fortunate in the poverty-stricken areas of Togo, Africa.
The 32-year-old millionaire who helped change the lives of so many people through his charity work passed away earlier this week in the blessed month of Ramadan.
In a short documentary recorded prior to his death, the man with kind heart in his last message asked people to continue his work. In the video ‘Gifted With Cancer’ uploaded to YouTube channel OnePath Network that went viral, Banat described his illness as a “gift” because Allah (SWT) has given me a chance to change".
“As you can see in this life we had the cars, we had the money, we had everything. So during your life brothers and sisters just try to have a goal, try to have a plan that you work towards. Even if it’s not you personally funding it, and you are funding someone else’s projects just do something because Wallah you are going to need it on the Day of Judgement,” he said.
"And for the brothers and sisters that are chasing this life, my advice to you guys is this life is becoming, before we used to say five years ago, ten years ago certain things were happening, now it's every month things are changing. Wallah, we are following our desires more than we are following Islam these days", he added.
