Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan late in the night Sunday declared victory in the country's presidential election and said an alliance led by his ruling party also won a majority in parliament.
Erdogan's declaration was followed by the announcement by the country's electoral council said the alliance led by Justice and Development (AK) Party surpass 10% threshold in the parliamentary elections.
Announcing that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won absolute majority in presidential election as 97.7 percent of ballot boxes were opened, YSK head Sadi Guven said Justice and Development (AK) Party, Republican People’s Party (CHP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and Good (IYI) Party surpass 10 percent threshold in the parliamentary election.
Sadi said the remaining uncounted votes will not affect election results, according to Anadolu Agency.
According to electoral council, Erodgan's ruling AK Party is also leading in parliamentary elections, with 42.4 percent of the vote counted. Along with the MHP, the AK Party’s election ally, the People's Alliance has won 53.6 percent of the vote so far.
Meanwhile, supporters of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party in both Turkey and abroad on Sunday evening celebrated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's election success.
AK Party supporters in the capital Ankara and other central provinces of Nevsehir, Kayseri, Sivas, and Nigde and the western provinces of Izmir, Sakarya, and Kocaeli and Black Sea provinces of Zonguldak, Karabuk, and Duzce celebrated Erdogan's success.
Supporters waving both AK Party and Turkish flags thronged the streets to celebrate Erdogan's election success.
In addition to Turkish cities, Turks in Brussels, Belgium also celebrated Erdogan's success. Celebrations centered on Chaussee de Haecht Street, known as a Turkish district in the Belgian capital.
