New Delhi: The son of an additional district and sessions judge, who sustained bullet wounds after he and his mother were shot at by a personal security officer, has been declared “brain dead” by doctors, news agency PTI reported on Monday.
The doctors had on Sunday morning announced that Ritu, the wife of the judge, had succumbed to her injuries late on Saturday night.
The 18-year-old boy, Dhruv, has been undergoing treatment at Medanta–The Medicity where doctors said he was “critical and on life support.”
Ritu (38) and Dhruv, wife and son of Additional Sessions Judge Krishan Kant Sharm, were on Saturday shot at in Gurgaon afternoon by their own gunman. Both were taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The accused in the case had fled the spot after the incident, but was later apprehended. The incident occurred at around 3 pm on Saturday, at Unitech Arcadia in the city’s Sector 49.
The gunman first shot the wife Ritu and then the son, Dhruv, and tried to drag him in the car. But when he couldn't, he left them on the road and drove away in the same car, shows the video footage captured by eyewitnesses from their cellphones.
On his way, he called the judge to say, "I have shot your wife and son". He made two more calls telling people about the shooting, including his mother.
Mahipal was posted with the judge and his family for the past two years. Gurugram Police PRO Subhash Bokan told PTI that Mahipal was being interrogated to establish the reason why he opened fire.
