"He came like an angel": UP cop rescued by Haji Qadir during violent protest over CAA

Haji Qadir said that he was offering Namaz when he was told that a policeman had been surrounded by the mob

Firozabad: When police clashed with the people protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 last week and people were running helter skelter to save one another, Haji Qadir rushed to rescue a policeman badly injured in the violence.

"Hajji Qadir Sahab came like an angel in my life. Had it not been for him, I would have been killed," Ajay Kumar, a policeman, who had injuries on his hand and head after he was beaten by the violent mob during the December 20 protest, told ANI.

"He took me to his home. I had injuries on one of my fingers and head. He gave me water and his clothes to wear and assured me that I will be safe. He took me to the police station later," Kumar added.

Recalling the incident, Haji Qadir said that he was offering Namaz when he was told that a policeman had been surrounded by the mob.

"He was severely injured, I assured him that I will save him. I didn't know his name at the time. What I did was for humanity," Haji Qadir said.

Uttar Pradesh is on edge since December 11 when the Citizenship Amendment Act was passed by the Parliament. More than 20 people, mostly Muslims, have been killed in the clashes bewteen police and protesters.

Among the worst hit areas is Aligarh. A number of activists who visted Aligarh Muslim University said the university witnessed a rare kind of police brutality. They also claimed that at least 09 students are missing ever since the police broke into the campus following the anti-CAA protest.
