Mumbai: A pro-CAA rally, organised by the BJP at Rajgarh, took a violent turn on Sunday when participants allegedly attacked police and officials present following which officials took on the unruly crowd.
A video showing BJP workers heckling and pulling the hair of Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district Deputy Collector Priya Verma is also doing the rounds on the Internet.
The video clips purportedly show Deputy Collector Priya Verma slapping a man, while Collector Nidhi Nivedita takes on a few others at the rally.
Hashtag #I_support_PriyaVerma is trending on Twitter as Netizens hailed and supported the female official.
"If this was done by #AntiCAA_NRC_NPR protesters in #UP then the Sanghi police have shot them. Salute to Priya Verma. #WeSupportPriyaVerma", a Twitter user wrote.
A Tweeple remarked, "Shame On BJP & RSS Workers For Misbehaving With Deputy Collector #PriyaVerma In #IndiaSupportCAA Rally In #Rajgarh In #MadhyaPradesh. Today, the officer won the heart, this brave, honest."
"BJP Goons Pulled Hair Of Rajgarh Deputy collector priya Verma. Bjp Member took out pro-CAA Support Rally without permission, Dy collector Tried to stop them and sanghi Goons attacked on her" wrote another user.
District Collector Nidhi Nivedita on Saturday clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC for a month in the district. Fight between the officials and BJP workers broke out after the protesters refused to call off the rally despite repeated requests from authorities.
BJP supporeters on the other hand used hashtag #Terminate_priya_verma to deman her removal. "What an utter shameful and unprofessional way of tackling the situation. Unnecessary sheroism" read one post.
However, Twitter users slammed the BJP worker for demanding Verma's termination.
"Sanghis who were cheering and supporting the brutality of Police on students and protestors against CAA are now demanding resignation of Priya Verma because she slapped one of the protestor in a rally in support of CAA. Hypocrisy ki bhi seema hoti hai", a Twitter user wrote.
