2020 NEET and JEE: The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) and National Testing Agency (NTA) will decide today i.e. Friday July 3, 2020 whether to hold 2020 Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE Main 2020) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - UG (NEET 2020) in July or postpone them to some later date.
There are widepsread demand to postpone the two important exams in the wake of intensifying Coronavirus pandemic in India and other parts of the world.
Some groups of parents and students have also approached the Supreme Court of India and also high courts with petitions seeking postponement of the two tests. On the other hand another group has written to the National Testing Agency (NTA) - the authority responsible to conduct the two exams, to hold them in July.
Campaigns to hold NEET 2020 and JEE Main 2020 in July and postpone them to some later dates have also launched online and on social media.
According to the latest news update on the issue, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) said it will take a final decision on the matter Friday.
Writing on Twitter Thursday HRD Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that a commission comprising NTA and other experts have been asked to review the situation and submit their recommendations latest by tomorrow i.e. Friday July 3, 2020.
"Looking at the prevailing circumstances and requests received from students and parents appearing for #JEE and #NEET examinations, a committee consisting of @DG_NTA and other experts has been advised to review the situation and submit its recommendations to @HRDMinistry latest by tomorrow", Pokhriyal said.
The NTA had earlier rescheduled JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 due to Coronavirus induced lockdown imposed in India in March.
As per the new time table, JEE 2020 is scheduled to be held between July 19 and July 23. On the other hand, NEET 2020 which was originally scheduled to be held in May will now be held on July 26, 2020.
A total of more than 30 lakh students are confused about whether the exams will be held on the scheduled dates since the number of Covid-19 cases in India has crossed 6 lakhs.
