Mumbai: A 64-year-old COVID-19 patient died here on Tuesday, making him the first such victim in Maharashtra and Indias third reported death due to coronavirus.
The man was under treatment at the state-run Kasturba Hospital in south central Mumbai for the past few days.
Health and government officials concerned declined to share further details. There are another 38 coronavirus positive patients admitted in hospitals across the state.
Maharshtra is the worst affected state in India by Coronavirus. The state has ordered closure of all schools, colleges, malls and other public places till March 31. The state has also ordered stamping of the people who have been advised self-isolation.
With Maharashtra recording the first death due to Cotonavirus, the death toll due to the deadly disease which started from China's Wuhan has reached to 03.
Earlier two Coronavirus deaths - both woman, were recorded in New Delhi and Karnataka.
More than 7000 people have so far died in 143 countries because of Coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
On Monday, about 14,000 people were infected with the novel Coronavirus globally - largest in a single day - bringing the total number of confirmed cases above 167,500, according to the WHO.
