New Delhi: The Supreme Court today permitted Maharashtra Government to file an amendment application in Belgaum dispute case.
State of Maharashtra has been demanding 814 villages in Karnataka to be included in Maharashtra on the ground that the majority of people in these villages is Marathi-speaking.
The Centre and Karnataka are strongly opposed to the reorganisation of the state on the basis of language.
The Union Government in its fresh affidavit has urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the suit of state of Maharashtra with heavy costs so that in future such cases are not filed.
The permission was granted by a bench comprising Justices J M Panchal and A K Patnaik.
