Bangalore: IIT Kanpur (IIT-K) plans to have presence in the US and Malaysia, besides Noida and Bangalore, with an ambition to compete internationally with top global universities, its Director Prof S G Dhande said today.

He said the first footprint outside its 1,050 acre campus in Kanpur would be Noida which would give the Institute a foothold in Delhi and surrounding areas.

He was speaking at an innovation convention, organised by IIT- Kanpur Alumni Association as part of gold jubilee celebration of its alma mater, where he pushed the idea of "borderless concept" of the Institute.

He said IIT-K is holding discussions to open a research centre in Penang--an electronics industries hub--in Malaysia that would give the institute a strategic presence in south east Asia.
