London: The Muslim Council of Britain’s ‘Books for Schools’ project will be launched in Oxfordshire on the 24th of June at the Oxford School, Glanville Road, Oxford, OX4 2AU.

The project contains RE resources to facilitate teachers in teaching Islam along with other world religions already taught as part of the Religious Education curriculum in Oxfordshire.

Jehangir Malik OBE, the UK Director of Islamic Relief, said: “We are delighted to work on initiatives that help build bridges between communities and are delighted to support “Books for Schools Project”. We hope these resources will promote better understanding and foster good relations between communities in our country.”

Dr Nicholas Wood, Chair of Oxfordshire SACRE, said: “The significance of high quality Religious Education in our diverse society is more crucial than ever. It is also important that the various communities can have confidence that the materials used give an accurate and fair representation of their traditions. Oxfordshire SACRE remains committed to working positively with all faith communities to resource effective and positive Religious Education and we are grateful for this significant contribution from the MCB."

Dr H Ramzy, Chair of Iqra School Oxford, said:” Being an affiliate organisation of the MCB, we feel honoured to be part of this launch. We commend the MCB in developing the Books for Schools resource pack, which will help mainstream schools’ RE teachers to plan and manage teaching of Islam.”

Newly elected Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, Farooq Murad said: “Only through better understanding can this country move forward as a true multi-faith and multicultural society. We must ensure that every child grows up with enough knowledge of all major religions to identify the needs of each other and look after their friends and neighbours.”
