Now working with several Gandhian NGOs, the veteran freedom fighter, who is 81 year-old proudly recalls his long association with Mahatma Gandhi. Affectionately saying, “His association with Mahatma Gandhi has spoilt his life in such a way that he cannot sit idle even in this age”, he spoke in length with Nashik Times and addressed the various burning issues now facing the country.
Recalling that even US President George Bush realized the importance of the Gandhian Practice after 9/11 attack, Padmashree awarded former Chief Justice observed, “But since the whole US economy revolves around weapons, United States fail to practice what it advises to others.”
When pointed that the Gandhian Philosophy today is more in books than in practice, he said, “If anything happens in India, this is asked where the Gandhians are. This happened after 1984 riots in Mumbai and also after the riots in Gujarat. It means the world still thinks it as part and partial of the Indian culture.”
Urging the masses in the country for practicing the Gandhian Philosophy he cautioned, “House are built to live and homes are constructed for love. Toady we have just house, not homes. The pocket money culture is spoiling the lives of our youths. We have the neighborhood, but without relationship. Our society has become inhuman, creating a greed-based culture.”
When asked about the solution, he advocated changes and reforms in almost whole system. “The politicians do not want the change and our Education System has failed in yielding the desired results.” Saying that the present day Education System does not provide equal opportunities for everyone, he said, “Unless you have equal opportunities for all, you cannot think of equality.”
Highly acclaimed veteran was highly critical of the existing Judicial System also. Recalling that he had never seen an individual saying 100% truth even under oath he said, “The existing judiciary system is based on oral and documental evidences. That cannot be 100% true. Because of this people are being punished for the offences that they are not even aware of.”
“Still”, he concluded, “I have sole belief in the youth of the country and all these things will be changed within next ten years.”
