Thursday, August 05, 2010 06:27:32 PM, ummid.cm Staff Reporter

Malegaon: Agreeing on the need to strengthen the Urdu language, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today assured the Lok Sabha to take steps in this regard.

"There are no two opinions about the importance of the Urdu language. It is part of the heritage of India," IANS quoted Mukherjee as saying.

He said the central government will ask all the state governments to initiate steps to strengthen this language.

"The prime minister has already instructed the information and broadcasting ministry to provide necessary encouragements and funds for promotion of the Urdu media," Mukherjee said.

Mukherjee's assurance came after the leaders of all political parties, central ministers, including the Speaker, Meira Kumar expressed the need to strengthen the Urdu language.

The matter under public importance was raised by Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The concern over the language widely spoken language in the world shown jointly by these leaders received the Minister's appreciation who praised all parties for speaking on the issue in one voice.
