Ahmednagar (Maharashtra):
Senior Mumbai Police inspector Arun Borude, who was absconding for
more than a month after being accused of raping a minor girl, was
found severely injured on a railway track in Ahmednagar district
of Maharashtra Wednesday, police said here. He later succumbed to
his injuries.
"When we found him, he was unconscious. His head and chest were
severely injured. It looked like he was hit by a train. He died
three hours after he was found," Additional Superintendent of
Police (Shrirampur) Sunil Kadasne told IANS.
"It does seem like a case of suicide, but it seems like he might
have had second thoughts after he saw a train rushing towards him.
He was not crushed by the train, only hit," he added.
Kadasne said that a Mumbai Police team will soon reach Ahmednagar,
about 250 km from Mumbai.
"The investigation into the cause of death will be undertaken by
the local police. A team from Mumbai will, however, be present
during the identification process," Mumbai Police Commissioner
Sanjeev Dayal said.
"We could not talk to Borude to confirm what actually happened,
but we are doing an autopsy to know the exact cause of his death,"
said Kadasne.
A former encounter specialist, Borude was absconding since more
than a month. He was accused of raping a minor girl in suburban
Andheri and was later sacked by the Director General of Police D.
Sivanandan.
The rape incident came to light when the victim gave birth to a
child in October this year.
