Govt. should stop playing game with Muslims, says Maulana Wali Rahmani

Malegaon: In a scathing attack aimed at the Congress led UPA government in New Delhi, Maulana Sayyad Mohammad Wali Rahmani alleged, the government and big corporate houses have encroached over the Waqf Lands in New Delhi and other places in the country.

“The government is not serious in protecting the waqf lands. Because, it is the government itself that has misused and encroached the waqf lands in a very large scale”, he alleged.

“Let the government put all the records relating to the Waqf Lands on computers. It will show to the world that many buildings located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in New Delhi including Nanak Hall, Maulana Azad Medical College, Panth Hospital, Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, Link House, the offices of National Herald, Gandhi Peace Foundation and Indian Express, and also part of Rashtrapati Bhavan, Supreme Court building, Indian Parliament and ITO are all constructed on waqf lands”, he said while addressing the media persons today morning in Malegaon.

Maulana Sayyad Mohammad Wali Rahmani - General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Board (AIMPLB) and founder of Rahmani Foundation, Bihar was on a two-day visit to Malegaon, the textile town in North Maharashtra dominated by Muslims.

Stating that ever since the government formed waqf boards, the situation has worsened and misuse of waqf lands increased, Maulana Rahmani, who besides being President of Madrasa Modernisation Committee formed by the UPA Government in its earlier tenure is also a former MLC and Deputy Speaker of Bihar Assembly, said, “This is why we are opposing the formation of Madrasa boards."

"We strongly believe that under the Government control, Madrasas would lost their identities and the very purpose of their establishment", he said.

He was also critical of the archeology department that refrains the Muslims from offering prayers in the mosque under its control.

“There are masjids as well as mandirs under the archeology department. But, while prayers are allowed in mandirs, Muslims are refrained from offering prayers in masjids. This, at the time, when there is no such law”, he said.

“This is a clear case of discrimination and misuse of power", he said.

Recently, Outlook - a leading fortnightly English Magazine, in its exclusive report had also termed the misuse of waqf lands in India as the biggest land scam of the history.

Claiming that there are approximately 3,00,000 registered Wakf properties in India on about four lakh acres of land, Outlook had noted, "The properties that should have been used for the welfare of the Indian Muslims, are mortgaged, sold and encroached upon with the connivance of the very institutions and individuals responsible for safeguarding it."

Questioning the functioning of the Wakf boards and highlighting the corruption within, the report said, "The Wakf boards in most states of India are repositories of corruption, in league with land sharks and builders. They continue to get away with the daylight robbery of their own community because, whenever there is any demand for scrutiny, they crudely take cover behind the “Islam in danger” sentiment."

Significantly, Maulana Rahmani raised similar allegations in the public meeting that preceded today’s press conference and also in front of Union Industry Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on January 28, 2010 in Aurangabad.

The high-profile Minister and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, however, instead of replying to the allegations could just say that many things he heard from the Maulana were totally new to him.
