Kannur: Weapons including 10 powerful country-made bombs were unearthed from an uninhabited house near the Muzhappilangad beach under the Edakkad Police Station limits here on Monday.

The police said that the bombs and other weapons were seized during a raid conducted on the building following a tip-off.

The raid started in the morning was still continuing, the police said. One of the rooms in the building at Manappuram near the beach was allegedly being used as office of the Popular Front of India (PFI), the police said.

Nine of the country-made bombs and equal number of swords and an axe were seized from the premises. Some provocative leaflets and posters were also seized, the police said.

According to the police raids were continuing in suspected places used by PFI activists. The raid was started after the Edakkad Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar received an anonymous message that some explosive materials were kept near a local mosque.

Inspector General of Police (Kannur Range) Sudhesh Kumar also visited the spot.
