45th time unlucky, Jabbar to sit in Class 10 board exams again

Mumbai: She was returning home from the college when met with a train accident. The accident completely damaged her both the legs but could not dampen her spirit. She continued studies right at her home, appeared for this year’s HSC exams and when the results were out, came with flying colors.

This is the story of Raushan Jahan Jawwad Ah (19), a resident of Mumbai suburbs. Residing in a rented house with parents and younger sister in Jogeshwari (West), Raushan Jahan on a fateful evening in 2008 boarded the jam-packed Mumbai local at Bandra station. She was in the middle of her XI exams and was going back home after finishing Physics paper. Totally unaware of what the next few moments would have in store for her, she continued travelling thinking of the next paper and planning how to score more and more. It was then that she lost her balance and fell off the train that was running at its full speed between Andheri and Jogeshwari. In the accident, Rausah Jahan lost both the legs, and possibly all the hopes of a better future.

“I had really lost all the hopes after the fateful accident”, Raushan Jahan said, adding, “But it was my mother who not only encouraged me ever since but also worked with me round the clock till I finished my HSC exams.”

Raushan Jahan after meeting with the accident could not go to the college. She, however, prepared for the HSC exams at her home the entire year with the help of close relatives and the supporting staff of Farooque High School and Anjuman-e-Islam  Ishaque Gymkhanawala Girls High School & Jr. College. The efforts did not go unreturned. When the HSC results were announced last week, Raushan Jahan was in the list of students passing the exams with distinction. She had scored 75%.

A beaming Raushan Jahan who is aspiring to be a doctor now waits for CET results to fulfil her dreams.

Apart from being good in studies, Raushan Jahan is a good orator and has an excellent voice. These talents have also earned her more than fifty awards and five medals. But the success in HSC exams is unmatchable and together with her mother and younger sister she is now enjoying the moment. Anjuma-e-Islam made their moments more memorable by conferring special awards on Raushan Jahan and her mother for their great effort.
