Police constable arrested for attempting to rape widow in Poonch

Jammu: A serving police constable was today arrested for attempting to rape a widow in Mendhar area of north western Poonch district, police said.

The accused, identified as Nisar Ahmad, resident of Salwah in Mendhar tehsil, was arrested after he attempted to rape a widow, identified as Zubeda Bi, at Gursai in the same tehsil this afternoon, police said.

The constable, who was posted at the Gursai Police Station and putting up in a rented accommodation at Gursai, was caught by locals after the woman shouted for help, they said.

The accused was arrested after a case was registered against him under sections 511 and 354 of Ranbir Panel Code.
