Rent-a-Riot: Ram Sena files complaint against journalist

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 11:02:52 AM, Agencies

Sri Ram Sena chief, aides exposed in ‘rent-a-riot' sting operation: Sri Ram Sena president Pramod Muthalik, and top aides of his outfit, were caught on camera agreeing to vandalise an .... Read Full

Bangalore: Sri Rama Sena’s Bangalore head Vasanth Kumar filed a compliant against Pushpa Sharma, a journalist from Noida, Tehelka.com, news channels Headlines Today and Aaj Tak before the II Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

In his petition, Vasanth Kumar requested the court to direct the police to accept his complaint and investigate the case. He contended the Siddapura police did not accept his complaint even after repeated requests.

Sharma, Headlines Today, Aaj Tak and Tehelka had conducted a six-week-long joint investigation in which they had caught Sri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik and other Sene leaders on camera admitting that they could ‘arrange a communal riot’ for a payment.

Kumar has stated in the complaint that Pushpa Sharma called him on February 13 and told him that he knows Muthalik and that he is a budding artist.

Sharma wanted to meet Kumar to talk about the painting exhibition that he was organising on love jihad, Kumar added in his complaint. Kumar also stated that he met Sharma on February 15 at a coffee shop.

Kumar contends that it was Sharma who proposed to organise the exhibition at Shivajinagar and to invite Mumtaz Ali Khan, the Wakf Minister, to inaugurate it. Sharma offered to donate money to Sri Ram Sena after he becomes famous.

Kumar claims that he had refused the money.

According to the complaint, Kumar said that Sena activists are prepared to do anything for the cause of Hinduism and that they would destroy the exhibited material as a mark of protest.

Vasant accused the media houses of recording the conversation and editing it to suit their needs and to defame Sri Rama Sena.

The case has been posted to June 17.
