Bangladesh mourns freedom fighters' killings in 1975

Dhaka:
Bangladesh observed "black day" Wednesday to mourn the 1975
killings in jail of four of its freedom fighters who held offices
in the first government after independence.
The four - former prime minister Tajuddin Ahmed, former vice
president Syed Nazrul Islam and ministers M. Mansur Ali and A.H.M.
Qamaruzzaman - had been detained in Dhaka Jail after the Aug 15,
1975 military-led coup in which founding leader and then president
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated.
The four were gunned down by military personnel Nov 3, 1975.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered prayer and placed wreaths at
their graves, Star Online, website of the Daily Star newspaper,
reported.
The prime minister also placed wreaths at the house where Mujib
and 20 of his family members were assassinated.
Her government has instituted a probe into what are called the
"jail killings" to identify the assassins.
